Tipping a full salon visit
A salon visit often combines more than one service — a cut, color, wash or styling — and sometimes more than one person. The simplest approach is to apply one percentage to the whole service total. If you want to be more precise, open Advanced options and add a row for each professional so each person receives a tip based on their own service.
Tipping practices vary by salon, region and country. The percentages here reflect commonly cited U.S. custom and are choices, not requirements.
Splitting the tip between staff
If a colorist, stylist and assistant all worked on your visit, you have options:
- Give the main provider a full tip and add a small fixed amount for the assistant.
- Tip each provider a percentage of their own service using the multiple-professionals rows.
- Split a single total between people using the split option.

Service charges, discounts and gift cards
- Service charge: if the receipt includes an automatic gratuity, check what it covers before adding more. The calculator shows it separately.
