Corrections Policy

Accurate content matters. If something on this site is wrong, we want to know, and this page explains how reporting works and what we do with it.

    How to report a correction

If you spot an error, an outdated statement or something that is simply unclear, you can tell us through our contact page. Please include:

    • The page or section you are writing about.
    • The text or figure you believe is wrong.
    • Any source or explanation that supports the correction.

You do not need to be an expert to report a problem. A short, specific message is more useful than a general one, and a link to a reliable source helps us verify the point quickly.

    What we review

We review factual claims, calculations and statements about tipping practice. Because our methodology page describes how the calculator works, we also welcome reports that point out a mismatch between what the calculator does and what the page says it does.

Tipping is a matter of custom rather than strict fact, and practices genuinely vary. Where a report concerns a judgement call rather than an error, we may clarify the wording to make the uncertainty explicit instead of asserting a single answer.

    How we keep records

When a correction results in a meaningful change, we keep a record of that change. The record captures what was corrected so there is a trace of the edit. Minor fixes such as a typo repair may not be recorded individually, but a substantive correction is.

    Reviews and reviewed dates

Each page shows a last reviewed date. We update that date only when the page has actually been reviewed and its content has been checked or changed. We do not change a reviewed date to make a page appear more current without a genuine review behind it. If a reported error does not result in a change, the reviewed date stays as it was.

    What we do not change

We do not add invented percentages, made-up reviews, ratings, testimonials or statistics in response to a report. If the honest answer is that a figure is uncertain or that practices vary, we say so rather than manufacturing precision.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I report an error?

Use the contact page to describe the page, the text you believe is wrong, and any source that supports your correction. A clear description and a link to evidence help us review the report faster.

What happens after I report a correction?

We review the page and the evidence, decide whether a change is warranted, and update the content if it is. Meaningful changes are recorded so there is a trace of what was corrected and when.

Will the reviewed date change even if nothing is fixed?

No. We only update the reviewed date when the page has actually been reviewed and the content has been checked or changed. We do not reset the date to make a page look fresher without a real review.
